The Blue Verve Project is an initiative that started in 2009 when the founders of Sherpani, took their two girls on a sailing trip to the outer islands of the Abaco’s. The first stop was the Gumelemi Cay, a small uninhabited island with a pristine white sandy beach and turquoise blue waters.
“We were so eager to get in the water, as soon as the anchor was set; we all jumped off the back of the boat into a mesmerizing, blue ocean. We were immediately stunned to see how much trash there was on the ocean floor. We grabbed a Kayak to pack as our garbage truck; In the first 10 minutes of the first day we pick-up a dozen water bottles and aluminum cans.”
10 days later, back at the office, Maria and Ed began looking for recycled fabrics that would look good, work great and help relieve some of the plastic pressure on the world’s oceans.

“We are not environmental activists, we’re just everyday people who were really moved by the volume of garbage we found on so many remote islands. During our sailing trip, we were successful in avoiding the crowds, but it was impossible to avoid the plastic - it’s everywhere”.
The Sherpani Spring/Summer 2010 season launched with an all-new Sport collection made entirely of fabrics recycled from plastic water bottles. In the following 9 years, Sherpani has repurposed an estimated 3.2 million water bottles that might have otherwise polluted our land and seas. Not bad; right?
Blue Verve Project has been an internal initiative that we would like to highlight more in the upcoming seasons. It's not political, it's not ideological, it's simply about gathering like-minded people who quietly do the little things every day to make our planet, and our adventures, a little more pleasant.
In 2018 Sherpani was beyond honored to receive the "All-In" Champions of Sustainability award from our fabric partners Repreve.
ALL-IN AWARD: SHERPANI
Lifestyle bags that blend style + sustainability + function
“We are alpine design with coastal attitude,” said Alexa Osbourn, Sherpani Brand Marketing Manager. “Our brand is very connected to our land and water, our mountains and oceans. It’s just in our DNA.
Sherpani won the All-In special category award for integrating REPREVE extensively into its product line from the start. Its core (and most popular) product line, the Essentials collection, is made from 100% REPREVE recycled fiber—with even more colors and styles on the drawing board. “It’s a no-brainer, with so many amazing materials, textiles and technologies out there that have made it so accessible to be sustainable,” she said. Sherpani bags are sustainably designed to go beyond fashion, to function throughout customers’ everyday lives and outlast the trends. The design process also ensures that patterns and cut pieces minimize fabric waste.
Osbourn concluded: “We all benefit from what REPREVE is doing. Being an extension of Unifi’s recycling effort, and helping them make a better tomorrow, is a big benefit for us.”
